Nepalese yak and Chulu West.

It was early December, the temperature was low and the wind was high. It was my second time around the circuit in three years and with my newly acquired photography skills, I was determined to take photos of the beauty Nepal has to offer.

After leaving the village of Yak Kharka, I had the sun to my back and the roar of the Jharsang river to my left. After walking for about half an hour I saw a herd of approximately twenty domestic yaks grazing and sunning themselves off to the right of the path. With Chulu west mountain in the background, I knew it was a perfect opportunity to capture these beautiful animals. After I left the path with camera in hand, I placed my backpack behind a bush. As to not startle or disturb them I walked very slowly. Every time they looked up I would stop and wait for them to resume grazing. After about fifteen minutes of this I found my position, I composed the shot and waited for the yak to raise its head to reveal red and yellow wool piece on the left ear and also hide the ugly yellow tag on the right ear in the shadow cast by its head.
