The daughter of the Koch tribe

A smile that is born of Beauty

The girl in the photo is a Koch Rajbongshi girl who is wearing the traditional women attire of the Koch Rajbongshi Tribe. The man behind the girl is Joi Barua, an Assamese musician who is nationally known. The location is the bank of the river Brahmaputra at Naranarayan Setu, a river bridge named after the famous Koch king of Kamrup-Kamata ( parts of present North East India and South Asia). An anthem for the tribe is being filmed in that location. In the last few decades the Koch Rajbanshi tribe is in the process of rediscovering their rich tradition and heritage and are engaged in claiming social justice for them. At present the tribe is a South Asian native community who are found in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. The modern hectic life has wiped the hearts of the people who are gradually losing their identity. Adorned in her tribe’s colours, with a smile, this Koch girl depicts a story of how the young generation has traversed forward creating an awareness among the majority by leaving behind the monotoned modern culture that has become a haphazard tidal wave of confusion among the youths who are lost into the thin air.
