My Nepal Story – from ABC to EBC – Part I (Chapter 3)

Proceeding – leaving all the butterflies, flowers and tall trees behind, the scenery is getting rougher and kind of desolate as we go on in the valley of Manang in the direction of ThorongLa. Surely life is really hard here for people and animals, but the landscape was also really fascinating for me.

One day – acclimatisation time again – we had a kind of short hike up the hill to visit a small monastery with it’s old monk.

Old, and interested in us and our ages, we got bracelets with good wishes for the pass from him. and afterwards we had plenty of time to sit before his dwelling, admire the whole big scenery as well as the small beauties …. and even take a short nap in the sun ;)!

By the way: it took me 5 years for this bracelet to fade away – so now it could be a good time for the next Nepal tour!

Also our guide enjoyed this easy relaxing day and the view.

No electricity – no problem: use solar power to boil the water!

No real prayer wheels – no problem: just take some old cans.

No toys to play with, also no problem: take a yak ..

Or, of course, horses for transport and travel

Here’s a perfect picnic place for our group – difficult to leave and hike on!

The next day we were quite surprised as we met these mountain bikers, climbing up to ThorongLa – and it looked like the yaks were also surprised!

the seemed to be used to hiking tourists on two feets – but these were strange ones ;)!

really admirable and saying so much thank you to these tough animals for bringing all the supplies; and also some weak tourists over the pass!

A really long, cold (water was frozen in my bottle) and hard way up to ThorongLa – though the sun came out the last hundreds meters i had to fight with myself.

But – as always – reaching the pass – nearly all efforts were forgotten in a second.

With this top moment of our tour – a good point to stop for this chapter.

Just one last thing to mention: this picture always reminds me of a short stop the way down from ThorongLa: this stop – after eating a bit -, me and a friend were just sitting on a rock, when we became aware of the fact, that there was no sound at all: no people, no animals, no rivers, no wind, no nothing: the absolute and perfect silence – very impressionating!
